Steel, gold, ivory
Master Ivan Bushuyev
Ivan Bushuyev, an armourer from Zlatoust, made this steel sabre to commemorate the Russian victory over the Turks in the 1828- 1829 War. The blade of burnished steel is decorated with gilded representation of the siege and storming of the Turkish fortress of Varna, and the hilt is embellished with ivory. It is surmounted with a cast female figure symbolising Nike, the winged goddess of Victory.
