Italy. 1696

Samite, one of the richest and most beautiful fabrics, was very popular in Russia in the 17th century. It was used by the representatives of the highest feudal nobility and church dignitaries. Such raiments, as seen on the picture, were carefully preserved and were often altered and handed down from generation to generation.
